Alternative Food Source is a series of events that can be triggered in most scenarios by having massive amounts of starving citizens. The series encompasses three decisions.

Broken Taboo

Broken Taboo

The first event will trigger when you have a large amount of starving citizens and Corpse Disposal (Law) passed.

Sir, a man carrying a tightly wrapped package under his coat raised our suspicions. The package turned out to be full of meat. After some questioning, he admitted to cutting up a dead body.

He says he won't let his family starve to death, no matter the cost. What should we do with this cannibal?

You have the following options:

  • Banish Him: This person will leave the city forever. Hope will fall.
  • Imprison Him: This person will be put in prison.
  • Make Him Repent: Public Penance will be used. This person might get hurt.
  • Let Him Go: 5 Starving people will be fed. Discontent will rise.

"Imprison Him" and "Make Him Repent" are only available if you have the relevant laws passed.

Desperate Solution

Desperate Solution

The second event will trigger when you have a large amount of starving citizens.

Sir, several families have followed the example of the man who stole and cooked a body. They say they don't want to starve to death like so many others did, and if this is what it takes then so be it.

What should we do with these cannibals?

You have the following options:

  • Banish Them: People will leave the city forever. Hope will fall.
  • Imprison Them: People will be put in prison.
  • Make Them Repent: Public Penance will be used. They may get hurt.
  • Let Them Be: Discontent will rise. Hope will rise slightly.

"Imprison Them" and "Make Them Repent" are only available if you have the relevant laws passed.

Hunger Riots

Hunger Riots

The third event will trigger when you have a large amount of starving citizens.

Sir, groups of starving people are storming the houses of cannibals, whether to punish them or to get some meat, we don't know.

It's a dark hour for our city and its citizens. We have to do something about the current situation and the hunger problem.

You have the following options:

  • We must eat to survive: A new law will be available: Alternative food source. Discontent will Rise.
  • I'll end the starvation soon: You'll have 3 days to feed starving people.
  • Send guards to calm them down: A new law will be available: Alternative food source.
  • Send the Faith Keepers to calm them down: A new law will be available: Alternative food source.

You do not get the Alternative Food Source law if you chose the "I'll end the starvation soon" option, even if you fail the quest it creates.

Without us

Alternative Food Source - Without us

This is the last event to trigger from this series.

Sir, a group of our people have come to say their goodbyes. They're leaving the city. They say that the death that awaits them in the wastes is preferable to what's happening here. They refuse to live alongside people who eat human flesh any longer.

What should we do with them?

You'll have the following options:

  • Let them go: People will leave the city forever. Discontent will rise.
  • Force them to stay: Hope will fall. Only available with Guards or Faith Keepers.

Notes

The exact trigger for this event is poorly understood, but you need starving people for it to trigger. However, deaths from starvation are not necessary.

If you have Public Penance on cooldown for either Broken Taboo or Desperate Solution and you select that option, the event will not complete, and you'll be presented with the same event later.
