Class Conflict is an event arc that triggers once you let the lords in during Face the Lords (Arc) in The Refugees.

Quarrel in the Cookhouse[ | ]

Class Conflict - Quarrel in the Cookhouse

The arc begins with this event.

Captain, a lord is arguing with some of our people who say he was trying to cut in line. He claims his noble birth entitles him to be served first.

You have the following options:

  • Support the lord: Discontent will rise
  • Support our people: The lord will be hurt.
  • Send our men to calm them down: The conflict will be resolved peacefully. Requires an active Guard Station or Faith Keepers

A lord's house is ablaze[ | ]

Class Conflict - A lord's house is ablaze

Shortly thereafter, this event will trigger.

Captain, someone has set one of the lords' houses on fire. Fortunately no one was hurt, but the family living there is terrified.

You have the following options:

  • I'm sorry to hear that: Discontent will rise
  • Find the arsonist: Requires an active Guard Station or Faith Keepers

Arsonist caught[ | ]

Class Conflict - Arsonist Caught

If you opt to find the arsonist during the last event, this event will trigger.

Captain, we've caught the man who set fire to the lord's house. He is one of our people, and he's unrepentant.

I did what had to be done. We have to get rid of the lords. They don't belong here.

You have the following options:

  • Banish him: This person will leave the city forever.
  • Let him go: Hope will fall
  • Make him repent: Public Penance will be used. Hope will rise slightly.
  • Imprison him: Hope will rise slightly. Prison required
  • We need a place for such people: You will have 3 days to build a Prison.
  • We will make him repent: You will have 3 days to sign the Public Penance law.

Bad blood rises[ | ]

Class Conflict - Bad blood rises

Regardless of your decision during "A lord's house is ablaze," this event will trigger.

Captain, a crowd of our people has gathered around the Generator. They are talking against the presence of the highborn in our city.

The tempers are running high. If we don't resolve the conflict the city can descend into lawlessness... which will ultimately end in violence.

You have the following options:

  • I hope people will come round: Discontent will rise
  • Disperse the crowd: People may get hurt. Requires an active Guard Station or Faith Keepers

Violent robbery[ | ]

Class Conflict - Violent robbery

This event will trigger after Bad blood rises regardless of your decision.

Captain, some of our people have robbed one of the lords' houses and brutally beaten its residents, amongst them women and children.

You have the following options:

  • I'm sorry to hear that: Discontent will rise
  • Make them repent: Public Penance will be used. Hope will rise slightly.
  • Imprison the guilty: Hope will rise slightly. Prison required

Women assaulted[ | ]

Class Conflict - Woman assaulted

Regardless of your decision in Violent robbery, this event will trigger next.

Captain, some of our people have stormed into one of the lords' houses and dragged four women who live there out in front of a crowd of onlookers. If we don't stop this, the women will be hurt.

You have the following options:

  • There's nothing i can do: A few lords will try to stop the assault. They may be killed. Discontent will rise.
  • Make them repent: Public Penance will be used. Hope will rise slightly.
  • Stop the assault: People may get hurt. Requires an active Guard Station or Faith Keepers
  • Imprison the guilty: Hope will rise slightly. Requires a Prison

To the gallows[ | ]

Class Conflict - To the gallows

Regardless of your decision in Woman assaulted, this event will trigger next.

Captain, 20 naked men and women, all from noble families, are being led to improvised gallows. Judging from the shouts of the crowd, this is just the beginning of the witch hunt.

You have the following options:

  • There's nothing i can do: 20 lords will be hanged. Discontent will rise.
  • Make them repent: Public Penance will be used. Hope will rise slightly.
  • Stop them: People may get hurt. Requires an active Guard Station or Faith Keepers
  • Imprison the guilty: Hope will rise slightly. Requires a Prison

Massacre[ | ]

Class Conflict - Massacre

If you do not complete the quest objective in time, this will conclude your arc.

Many men, women and children have fallen victim to your rule. Innocent blood has tainted the foundations of the city we have built with so much hard work.

Working people and lords can't live side by side - we ve learned that the hard way. Still, we can't help but look back and wonder if things could've been done differently... That question will haunt us for the rest of our lives.

You have the following options:

  • Nothing can be done

We are divided[ | ]

Class Conflict - We are divided

If you complete the quest objective in time, but sub optimally, this will be your arc ending.

We tried to reconcile our differences with the lords, but it proved impossible in the end. A new order had to be established. We are the masters now, and the lords are our servants.

Perhaps mutual mistrust doomed the idea of equality from the start. Either way, we are not united and we may never be.

You have the following options:

  • We did what had to be done

We are equal[ | ]

Class Conflict - We are equal

If you complete the quest objective in an optimal manner, this will be your arc ending. Optimal allows lynching Lord Craven or not, while resolving the Quarrel in the cookhouse peacefully.

We've let everyone in and started to build a world where people are not judged by their social class, but by their actions. We hope that the memory of the enmity between our people will soon fade away.

For the first time we have a chance to stand united.
